This Week at the Library: Sign Up For Fall Programs

Signups, meetings and Iron Pigs baseball!!

Happy First Week of Classes to East Penn students, parents and teachers! It definitely seems weird saying that so "early", but it's the new normal for us. Every new school year when my preschool storytime regulars start kindergarten, it's always so strange to think that they've "graduated" to elementary school! Time moves forward, and so do we here at the library with Fall programs starting up in one week!

If you didn't sign your child up for programs yet, please do soon! The 2s morning storytime is already full, and others are filling up. .

A couple of things to clarify based on some questions we get about programs... we do not turn children away from hearing the stories. So if the signup sheet is full or you can't make your child's day, feel free to come just to hear the stories! Just know that we can't guarantee a spot for the craft due to space limitations and that the day's stories and craft are geared toward children at that age. We sometimes get questions about why we have programs for specific ages and with class restrictions... well, we want as many kids as possible to participate, but we also want to provide your kids with a quality program. If we're trying to hit too wide of an age span, it's harder to tailor the program to kids developmental and social skills level. We don't want a 4 year old bored because books and crafts are too easy, nor do we want to try to keep a 2 year old still for longer books. So that's part of the reason behind splitting up ages. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Adult programs will also be starting up in September, with a program presented by John Royer, a retired engineer and MUFON field investigator, who will share about UFO sightings in the area. The adult book club meets as well.

This week can be described it as "Two Meetings and a Baseball Game".

This Week at the Library:

Wednesday: Friends Meeting, 6:30pm, in the library. Contact the library for more details if you're interested in joining the Friends group, or even just attending a meeting.

Thursday: Library Board of Directors Meeting, 5pm. Board meetings are open to the public, and this month's meeting will take place in the library program room. Contact the library for more details.

Friday: LML at the Iron Pigs Game! We know there are a lot of Iron Pigs fans out there! Why not join us at the game this Friday? The library will be receiving a check from QNB on the field prior to the 7:05 start time. The check amount is based on the number of doubles hit by Iron Pigs players during the 2012 season, and last season was nearly $3,000! Come on out to the game to celebrate with us... there are fireworks after the game! We'll reveal the check amount next week!

Finally, looking ahead to next week. The library will be closed for Labor Day on Monday. Enjoy the time with family and friends! No items will be due that day, and we'll re-open at 10am Tuesday morning. Preschool storytimes will begin that Tuesday with the 4 year olds meeting at 10:30am and 12:30pm.

Hope first days went well for everyone! And we hope to see you sometime this week at the library!
