This Week at the Library: Wear Costumes Next Week

We start a new cycle of storytimes this week at the library, and Wednesday, we're observing SnapShot PA!

We’re getting pretty settled into the new school year, and this week starts a new cycle of storytimes. Before we know it, Halloween’s going to be here! I’ve been asking kids what they’re going to dress up as, and most of them have known for months. Just as a heads up for storytime parents, next week is the week kids can wear their costumes to storytime… even though Halloween is the middle of the next week. We’re leading up to our big Halloween drop-by on Saturday the 27th, and also, if we waited until the week of Halloween, the poor 2 year olds would be getting Halloween stories after the fact! So kids can dress up next week in their costumes… and the following week wear orange or a Halloween shirt if they want!

Also, as part of a statewide initiative, on Wednesday, we’re going to be doing a “SnapShot PA." This is an event that libraries across the state have or will participate in sometime last week or this week. We’ve chosen Wednesday as the day. So that means we’ll be collecting all kinds of statistics—how many people come in, how many items are checked in and out, how many new library cards, what programs we do and how many attend. And we’ll also be taking some pictures to submit to the website the state has set up to celebrate the various ways libraries serve their communities. So if we ask to snap your picture (and sign a release) on Wednesday, that’s why!

Now on for this week!

This week at the library:

Monday: Space Trek: Aliens! 6:30pm. We’re kicking off our space themed school year program. This program for 4-6th grade, aka the “Aliens”, happens the third Monday night of every month. Each month, we’ll read some books about that month’s theme, then do an activity or craft. Advanced registration is required.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9/12 based on the East Penn School District. Contact us if you’re interested.

Wednesday: SnapShot PA, all day.

3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Intro to Computer Basics Level 2, 11am-1pm. Topics will include how to cut and paste, file management, webpage toolbar functions, control panel functions, and simple web searches. Advanced registration and a $5 fee is required.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes.

Intro to the Web, 11am-1pm. An introductory course on learning to navigate web pages, basic searches, downloading files, and printing. Advanced registration and a $5 fee is required.

Friday: Baby Lapsit, 9:30am, a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were 11 months old or younger as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.

Intro to Microsoft Word 2007, 11am-1pm. Come and learn the basic skills to understand and use Word, which is the word processing program that makes documents easier to create, share, and read. Advanced registration and a $5 fee required.

Ones Storytime, 10:30am; a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were between 12-23 months  as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.

Another full week, so as usual, please contact the library for details on any programs.
