You Belong @ Your Library is the Theme of National Library Week

It's National Library Week and we're giving stuff away to YOU to celebrate! Check out this week's activities!

It's National Library Week, the week set aside to put a spotlight on libraries at a national level! The theme for 2012 is “You Belong @ Your Library." At we've been trying to make a great case for why you belong at your library for a long time--- from books to eBooks, movies and music, public computers and wi-fi, to programs for children and adults, things you can find in-library or access remotely even if we’re closed. The list could go on! Hey, we've even turned into a “movie set”, hosting QNB’s second YouTube video featuring... someone you wouldn’t expect to see in the library! If you're reading this before dinnertime Monday, you'll have to check back for the reveal once we have “photographic proof”! When was the last time you saw a video being filmed in the library??

But we haven't stopped there! Through Saturday, we’ll be celebrating National Library Week “reverse birthday style”, giving YOU the presents. This week only, you can take advantage of an extra DVD, CD or audiobook rental over the usual 5 item limit AND you can renew a New item (as long as there isn’t a request on it).  Or how would you like a chance to win a 42” screen HDTV, a Simple Touch Nook eReader, two tickets to Dorney Park, a $50 giftcard for an ArtsQuest class at the Banana Factory, or $50 worth of K-Cups from Green Mountain? Those are the awesome prizes up for grabs in our Fundraiser Raffle, generously donated by some local businesses. A couple of bucks for the raffle tickets, which will be available until the end of April, will not only get you in the running for these great prizes, but also support the library in the process!

Also this week, come in and check out a proclamation by Board of Commissioners President Ron Eichenberg. Mid-week sometime, we’ll celebrate with a whole lot of “Peeps” in the library (watch our Facebook page for the announcement of the exact day!). And to cap off the week, we’ll be holding our annual Spring “Book" Sale, the first in the new, better organized location: The Book Nook on the 1st floor of the Township building! But let’s get to what’s going on this week at the library! So much going on this week for National Library Week, but there’s also our regular programming schedule!

This week at the library:

Monday: Book It Around the World! Gr.2-3; 6:30pm. This is our regular school year program for elementary school age kids in grades 2-3. In our “Around the World” theme, we'vel traveled by continent across the globe and this month, we’re closing in on the finish line with stories about South America, our final destination on our global trip! We’ll hear stories from this continent and then do an activity. But don’t worry, just because the regular school year programs are ending, we still have other programs for this age group, including an Earth Day one, a Sneak Peek for Summer Reading and a Mother’s Day drop-by! Check out our activity calendar for details.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytime, 10:30am. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date based on the East Penn School District. Contact us if you’re interested.

Computer Basics, Level 1 Adult Computer Class, 11am-1pm. For the “When you say ‘mouse’, I think ‘Mickey’ " user. Registration and $5 class fee due in advance.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes.

Computer Basics, Level 2 Adult Computer Class, 11am-1pm. For the user who knows a little about computers but needs some extra guidance. Registration and $5 class fee due in advance.

AARP Tax Aide; 1-5pm. This free service for those 60 and older of low or moderate income level is on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, the library is simply providing the meeting space, so you must come in and sign up for an appointment with the Tax Aide reps in order to meet with them, not the library. (They’re the ones keeping their own appointments, so we don’t even know what they might have available.) This is the LAST Thursday they’ll be here! For more information, call AARP at 1-888-227-7669.

Book Sale Preview Night for Friends of LML; 5-8pm, The Book Nook (1st floor, Township Building). This is a special “Friends Only” preview for the “book” sale… you can sign up and pay the $10 membership fee that night, but only members of the friends group get in early!

Friday: “Book” Sale, 9am-7pm (new extended hours!); The Book Nook (1st floor, Township Building)

Saturday: “Book” Sale, 9am-5pm; The Book Nook (1st floor, Township Building)

Daddy and Me Storytime, 10:30am, ages 2-6 with Dad! No moms allowed for our special “Daddy and Me” storytimes! If Daddy can’t make it, it can be Grandpa, Big Brother or Uncle… but just no moms!

We hope to see you stop in sometime this week! Happy National Library Week!
