Fall Programming Starting at LML!

I’ve been a little MIA the past few weeks, getting married and going away for my honeymoon, but I’m ready to get back into the swing of things here at the library and get the Fall programming season underway! Even more excited to see all of our families back in now that school’s back in session and families are getting school year routines figured out!

Stay tuned for upcoming news of things going on here at the library, but one big thing to mention is that September is National Library Card Signup Month! If you don’t have the “smartest card” in your wallet already, come in and get one… public libraries offer so much more than traditional print books. We may be able to surprise you! This month, new library card holders will receive a bumper “magnet” with signup! Don’t worry, if you love it, existing patrons will be able to buy them beginning in October.

We will also get started with our exciting new America’s Music series! In case you didn’t hear, LML is hosting “America’s Music: A Film History of Our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway”, a six-event program series featuring documentary film screenings and scholar-led discussions of twentieth-century American popular music. Its aim is to enlighten audiences about uniquely American musical genres including blues and gospel, Broadway, jazz, bluegrass and country, rock n’ roll, mambo, and hip hop.

LML is one of fifty sites nationwide selected to host this program series. “America’s Music” is a project by the Tribeca Film Institute in collaboration with the American Library Association, Tribeca Flashpoint, and the Society for American Music. “America’s Music” has been made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the Human Endeavor. ArtsQuest is a major partner for presenting this music series. Stay tuned for more details as programs continue!

Now onto this week’s programs and events…

This week at the library:

Monday: Bedtime Booktime; 7:30pm. Come here some bedtime stories! All ages. Bring a blanket, wear your PJs and maybe bring a stuffed animal ;) We’ll provide cookies and milk :)

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9/12 based on the East Penn School District.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for same reasons as above J

Intro to Computer Basics, Level 2; 11am-1pm. Topics will include how to cut and paste, file management, webpage toolbar functions, control panel functions, and simple web searches. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee is required before signup.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for same reasons as above J

Friday: Intro to the Web; 10am-12pm. An introductory course on learning to navigate web pages, basic searches, downloading files, and printing. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee is required before signup.

Saturday: Friends of LML monthly meeting; 10am. The monthly meeting of the library Friends group will be held in the program room.

America’s First: The Blues & Gospel; 6pm. The Blues & Gospel film will begin at 6pm, followed by a performance by St. John’s AME Zion Gospel Choir at 7pm. This program will be held at the Saal at Moravian Theological Seminary (60 W. Locust St., Bethlehem, PA). This event is free and open to the public. Contact the library for more details.

Lots going on this week! We hope that you’re getting settled into your school year routines and we can’t wait to see you in the library! As always, if you have any questions on programs or the library in general, please stop in, call or visit our website!
