Health & Fitness

This Week at the Library

Looking at the forecast for the next 10 days, there’s no more 70s! We may finally be fully switched over to Fall! Hopefully you switched your clocks back this weekend… for that wonderful extra hour of sleep. That is, unless you have small children, as all my parents-of-young-kids friends have complained, because it takes kids weeks to adjust! However your response to the time change, you have to admit, Fall is beautiful! There is a beautiful scene outside the community center with trees changing colors!

Looking at upcoming programs, with all the news about the Affordable Care Act and Health Insurance Marketplace, you may have some questions about what is right for you. The library is sponsoring an important information session about the Health Insurance Marketplace, presented by the Federal Health Exchange Navigators for Lehigh County from Berks Encore on Wednesday, November 13th at 6:30pm in the community center. You can contact the library for more details.

Now on to this week…

Monday: Roots; 6:30pm; Gr K-1st. This is our monthly program for children in Kindergarten and first grade.  We “dug” the “Dig” summer reading theme so much, we decided to keep it going during the school year, focusing on “roots”… plants, trees, hair, family history. Each month we’ll read some stories and do a craft. Advanced registration is required.

Bedtime booktime; 7:30pm; ages 2-8. Our monthly bedtime storytime. Kids can come out in their PJs to hear bedtime stories. We’ll read a few stories and send you off in time for bed! No signup required.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9/12 based on the East Penn School District.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for same reasons as above

LML Book Club; 10:30am. This month’s book selection is Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt. Book club meets in the LMT “ballroom”. Contact the library for details.

Intro to Compute Basics: Level 2; 11am. Topics will include how to cut and paste, file management, webpage toolbar functions, control panel functions, and simple web searches. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for same reasons as above.

LML Board Meeting; 5pm. The monthly meeting of the Lower Macungie Library Board of Directors is open to the public.

Friday: Intro to the Web; 10am. An introductory course on learning to navigate web pages, basic searches, downloading files, and printing. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Saturday: America’s Music: Rock. Film at 12:00pm; Performance/lecture at 1:00 by Dick Boak of Martin Guitars and Craig Thatcher of The Craig Thatcher Band. Come join us at ArtsQuest’s Banko Cinema for one of the final presentations in our America’s First series!

Just as a reminder: Save the Date for Friday, November 22nd and Saturday, 23rd for our annual Fall Book Sale, held from 9am-4:30pm. Preview night for any Friends members will be on Thursday, November 21st from 5-7:30pm. There will be a bag sale from 2:30-4:30, $5/bag, on Saturday to wrap up the sale.  Just over two weeks away, so don’t forget to mark down the date.
