Mary Lou Savitt, 79, Ran 'The Jack Savitt Gallery'

Mary Lou Savitt, 79, died on December 15, 2013.

Mary Lou Savitt went home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2013. She lost her battle with lung cancer and has found permanent healing in the arms of Christ. She was ushered into heaven by her daughter, Cathy, her sister, Robin and her friend, Peg.

Mary Lou was born in Coaldale Hospital on October 24, 1934. She was the daughter of R. Lamar and Effie M. (Springer) Stickler. She and her husband, Jack, were sweethearts during their years at Lansford High School from which they graduated in 1952. Mary Lou graduated with a degree in Art Education from Kutztown University in 1956. She later earned her Master’s degree in education.

Mary Lou taught all levels of art for 35 years, spending the last 20 years teaching at Saucon Valley Jr. High/Middle School before retiring in 1991.

In 1983, she and Jack bought and restored a farmhouse. From 1985 to 1998, she and Jack operated “The Jack Savitt Gallery” in their home in Macungie.

Mary Lou was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on their altar guild and as reader for many years. In addition, she was involved in their “Sisters in Spirit” group. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #298 and the Macungie’s Woman’s Club. Mary Lou also still kept in contact with a group of friends she’d known since elementary school.

Survivors
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Catherine Luebbert and her husband, James, of Baltimore; her sister, Robin Kline and her husband, Timothy, of Danville; her stepson, John Doyle and his wife, Dina, of E. Stroudsburg; her nephews, John L. Matta of FL and David D. Matta of Drums; her grandchildren, Rachel, Leah, Benjamin, Amanda, Roshelle and Felecia; and her great-grandchildren, Turner and Elena.

Services
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. Calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment at Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown, PA.

Contributions
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to “Restoration Fund,” Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, PA 18062 to restore their education and fellowship building.
