2 Hurt in 4-Car Chain-Reaction Crash on R.222
Northampton woman cited after her Honda CRV apparently begins series of collisions, state police say.
A Northampton woman was hurt and appears to have caused a chain-reaction crash involving four vehicles last Wednesday on northbound Route 222 near Krocks Road in Lower Macungie.
Also hurt was an Easton woman stopped in traffic around 5:25 p.m. The two other drivers and a passenger were not hurt, a state police fax says. Everyone was wearing a seat belt, the fax says.
Here's how the cars lined up:
--A 2013 Ford Fusion driven by Mark S. Maloney, 50, of Fleetwood and carrying passenger Shannon L. Maloney, 44, also of Fleetwood, was stopped for traffic in the right lane.
--A 2000 Hyundai Elantra driven by Maygual Santiago-Bordoy, 26, of Easton was behind it.
--A 2000 Volkswagen GTI driven by Nemanja Lukic, 29, of Allentown was stopped to the left of the Elantra.
According to the fax:
--The chain reaction began when a 2005 Honda CRV driven by Bonnie L. Wagner, 63, of Northampton hit the rear of the Elantra.
--The Elantra was pushed forward and hit the rear of the Fusion.
--The Elantra went counter-clockwise and the Fusion went clockwise. The Elantra's front driver's side bumper hit the VW's passenger-side front door.
--The CRV's front bumper made secondary impact with the Fusion's passenger side.
Wagner and Santiago-Bordoy suffered injuries of unknown severity and were taken either by Macungie EMS or Cetronia EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
Wagner was cited for violating the traffic law for driving at safe speed, the fax says.
