3 Hurt, 1 Seriously, in East Texas Road Crash, Police Say

Macungie woman was driving too fast on rainy highway and hit other motorist head-on, troopers say.

A 63-year-old Macungie woman was badly hurt and two other people were moderately injured recently when their vehicles collided head-on on a wet Lower Macungie Township roadway, according to police.

Mabel A. Vermuelen received what state police at Fogelsville termed major injuries at 5:21 p.m. Oct. 16 in the accident on East Texas Road between Kressler and Dulles roads. Her Kia Rio was travelling too fast on the wet road, crossed into the other lane and hit the Kia Sorrento driven by Nicole R. Reimer, 45, of Lehighton, Carbon County, police said.

The area received heavy rain throughout portions of the afternoon.

Reimer was moderately hurt, police said. A front-seat passenger in Vermeulen's sport-utility vehicle, Scott L. Wink, 18, of Alburtis, also suffered moderate injuries.

Both vehicles received heavy front-end damage, police said.

All three were transported to a hospital by Macungie Ambulance Corps, police said. Lower Macungie Fire Department assisted.

Vermuelen was cited for driving too fast for conditions, police said.
