Accused Rapist Waives Preliminary Hearing

Former township worker James Michael Andrews is scheduled to be arraigned May 24.

James Michael Andrews, the former Lower Macungie Township worker who is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy multiple times, today waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Lehigh County Court.

"He's scheduled to be arraigned on May 24," said Michael Ira Stump, Andrews' lawyer.

"He's not denying he did something wrong, but we don't know yet what he'll plead to," Stump said.

Andrews alleged assaults occurred from August 2011 to March 8, 2012, at his house and in the Lower Macungie Township Maintenance Building.

Township officials said at last week's board of commissioners' meeting that it would begin to advertise to fill the vacancy created by Andrews' dismissal.
