Alburtis Fire Co. Wants Your Vote

The Alburtis Fire Department is trying to win a new thermal imaging camera through a Facebook contest.

The Alburtis Fire Department needs a new thermal imaging camera. And the fire company is hoping to win this important piece of equipment through a Facebook contest.

As a result, the fire department has been circulating a plea on Facebook asking its Facebook friends -- and its Facebook friends of friends -- to cast a vote for the Alburtis Volunteer Fire Dept. with a click of the computer mouse.

In the Facebook post that is being shared about the contest, the fire company is described as a small, 35-member department in southeastern Pennsylvania that handles about 150 calls per year.

“We have a small operating budget and rely heavily on grants and donations,” the post says. "This thermal imaging camera would be a great addition to our department as our current thermal camera is older and not reliable.”

Alburtis Fire Dept. would use the camera for its own calls, and also in the effort to rescue downed firefighters through its involvement in a Rapid Intervention Team that serves portions of Lehigh and Berks counties, the post says.
