Boy Ran in Front of Vehicle in Lower Macungie, Police Say

6-year-old was struck June 3 in busy intersection.

The 6-year-old boy who was struck by a motorist on June 3 in a busy Lower Macungie Township intersection ran out in front of the vehicle, according to .

The boy, who was unnamed by police because of his age and listed only as being from Macungie, was attempting to cross Willow Lane from the east side at the intersection of Sauerkraut Lane at 4:54 p.m., according to police.

The vehicle was operated by David Lineberger, whose address was not given by police. Lineberger's vehicle was traveling south on Willow Lane and stopped at a stop sign at Sauerkraut Lane. As Lineberger began to pull into the intersection, the boy ran in front of his vehicle, police said. The boy was struck with the left front portion of the vehicle, which Lineberger stopped immediately upon impact.

Police offered no details about the boy's condition in a news release distributed this afternoon, other than to say he was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by . Scanner transmissions the day of the accident indicated the boy was unconscious at some point.

No charges were indicated on the release.
