Burglary in Progress Thwarted by Police

Macungie police say a man and woman tried to burglarize a Macungie home but almost got caught in the act.

Police from Macungie, Alburtis and Emmaus responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Lindfield Circle in Macungie on Monday morning — and they may have come close to catching the culprits in the act.

Police found a rear window open and the screen removed, but nothing was taken from the house, according to a press release from Macungie police.

Officers searched the house and didn't find anyone inside.

Witnesses said they saw a woman go to the front door and knock. When nobody answered, she walked away while talking on a cell phone.

Less than a minute later, witnesses said they saw a man walk up to the house. He was "able to gain entry to the locked door," police said, but they didn't specify how.

Police believe that, when the woman left, she went to a spot where she could see if police were coming and warn the man, who got out of the house through the window.

Police say they got to the house less than a minute after a witness called 911.

A black Mazda—possibly a Mazda 3—with dark tinted windows may have been involved in the incident.

The woman is described as: white, 5-foot-5, medium build, with dark hair possibly shaved on one side, wearing a black and white jogging suit with a white stripe on the pants.

The man is described as: light-skinned black or Hispanic, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall, thin build, wearing a dark-colored shirt, baseball cap and jeans.
