Angel Luis Roman, 615 Lafayette St., has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, possessing instruments of a crime, and prohibited offensive weapons, police say.
Police were sent to an apartment on Brookfield Circle at 10 a.m. in response to reports of a burglary in progress, according to a press release by the Macungie Police Department.
Someone had broken into an apartment but was confronted by the homeowner, who was home at the time. The intruder then fled, police say.
The homeowner recognized the intruder -- suspected to be Roman -- but only knew his first name, according to police.
Police say they found a small insulated cooler along Brookfield Drive containing numerous tools commonly used in burglaries, as well as gloves, a ski mask and “metal knuckles” that they believed were discarded by Roman as he fled the area.
A pay stub was also found in the cooler that included the suspect's name and address.
The homeowner was able to positively identify the alleged burglar, police say.
Roman is currently in Lehigh County Prison.
Alburtis Police and Pennsylvania State Police assisted on the call.
