Hotel Guest Charged in Crystal Meth Case

The following information was contained in court documents. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

On a Tuesday morning in June, a man staying at a Lower Macungie hotel went to the lobby and asked if a package he was expecting had arrived. He was told it had not.

That’s because a few hours earlier, state drug agents had intercepted the package, which had been shipped from Las Vegas.

And with the help of a K-9 dog, they later discovered the package contained 392 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Court records did not say how much the meth was worth. But a website called crystalmethaddiction.org lists an average street price of $80 a gram, meaning the confiscated meth could be worth $31,360.

On Saturday, about six months after confiscating the drugs, authorities took the hotel guest who allegedly asked about the package into custody.

Pawel Jon Gajewski, 35, of 4490 Run Road, Weisenberg Township, was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal conspiracy to possession with intent to deliver.

Gajewski was committed to Lehigh County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Gajewski’s address on Run Road was the scene of a fire in April 2010, according to The Morning Call. The two-story home was destroyed in a fire that apparently started in an attached garage, the story says.

Lehigh County online property records list the home's owners as Andrzej M. and Krystyna G. Gajewski.

Meanwhile, a criminal complaint filed by state drug agents Thomas Sedor and Aaron Laurito details the June 19 incident at the Wingate by Wyndham hotel, 4325 Hamilton Blvd.

Sedor previously worked for the Macungie and Allentown police departments, while Laurito is a former Pen Argyl police officer, the complaint said.

Their involvement in the case was part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of crystal methamphetamine in the Lehigh Valley.

According to the complaint:

--As a result of the investigation, they learned of a prearranged delivery of crystal meth from an unknown person to Gajewski. The package, which originated in Las Vegas, was addressed to a “Richard Dixon.” The agents said that person was an alias for Gajewski, who was staying at the Wingate.

--At about 8:45 a.m., another drug agent confiscated the package, which was being delivered by FedEx as a “priority overnight parcel.” The agent took the package to the attorney general’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation office in Allentown.

--At about 10:15 a.m., the K-9 narcotics dog Fedor started sniffing the package and found evidence it contained controlled substances.

--Gajewski made his trip to the hotel lobby about 11 a.m. And at 2:30 p.m., the agents executed a search warrant for the package and discovered the 392 grams of crystal meth inside.

The complaint does not explain the time gap between the June incident and Gajewski’s arraignment Saturday.

He was arraigned by on-duty District Judge Wayne Maura of Bethlehem.
