Describe your job with the fire company. “I am the building officer and take care of the maintenance of the Wescosville site. I also answer fire calls and do what I am currently able to do until I get more training.”
Why did you choose to become a firefighter? “I became interested in being a firefighter when I saw my dad go out on calls. He was a firefighter for a fire department in Buffalo, N.Y.”
How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger? “They are very supportive of what I do, even though they worry when I’m out on a call.”
What is it that keeps you coming back and continuing? “I want to help people and also like the public relations aspect of the fire department, like giving tours of the facility. I help with the fire prevention programs in the community and schools.”
What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company? “Try it. You’ll never know if you like it unless you try. There are a lot of things to do besides fighting fires. And the people here are great to work with.”
