Occupation: Jimmy works at Armetta’s delivering pizza. He is also attending Lehigh Carbon Community College with plans to transfer to a 4-year college and earn a Bachelor’s degree. His course of study is as yet undecided.

Fire Company: Lower Macungie Fire Department
Training: “I am trained as firefighter 1, basic vehicle rescue, first aid and CPR. I also attended Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) last year where I studied fire science. It was a live-in program at Progress Fire Co., where I went out on calls with the firefighters.”
Describe your job with the fire company. “I have been a firefighter for three years and go on calls when they come in.”
Why did you choose to become a firefighter? “My father was a firefighter at Western Salisbury Fire Department, but is now here. My friends and family said it would be a good thing to do.”
How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger? “My family is fine with what I do. It is almost expected.”
Tell us a story you'll never forget about your firefighting experience. “When I was at HACC, the fire company there received about 800-900 calls last year. I lived at the fire house with 12 other guys. It was constant experience and training.”
What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company? “Just do what you are told and you’ll be fine. Come on down. We always need volunteers.”
