Lower Mac Buyer's Suspicion Leads to Arrest

Just one of the two elements of this police report would be considered somewhat unusual, but both coming together would have to be long odds indeed.

The first unusual occurrence was the recovery of a laptop computer that was stolen from a woman's vehicle in North Whitehall Township. The second one was a Lower Macungie buyer who presumably thought he was getting a good deal on the laptop later checking with police to see if it was stolen. Put the two together, and say they have their man in a March case of theft from a motor vehicle.

The incident began March 13 when Joanne Diantonio of Briarwood Drive in North Whitehall reported that her vehicle was entered and the laptop taken, police said. Next, Peter Iaccarion of the 7000 block of Tuscany Drive in Lower Macungie responded to an ad for a laptop on Craigslist. He met the seller at the Wawa at Schantz Road and Route 100 in Upper Macungie Township and bought the laptop.

Iaccarion brought the laptop to the state police barracks in Upper Macungie on May 17. A check of the serial number confirmed the unit was stolen, police said.

Police subsequently arrested Nathaniel Rue-Durkin, 20, of North Whitehall with theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property, police said.
