Lower Mac Driver Wakes to Crash Nightmare, Police Say
He drifts off to sleep, then wakes to his car striking trees and an ambulance ride, troopers report.
An Allentown-area man woke Jan. 2 to something worse than his screeching alarm clock.
Jason Richardson, 22, was jolted awake at 6:20 a.m. as his car crashed into a tree, spun and crashed into another in Lower Macungie Township, according to state police at Fogeslville.
Richardson was driving his Nissan Altima southbound on Minesite Road near Riverbend Road when he fell asleep and drifted off the right shoulder, police said. He swerved and struck a tree on the left side of the road with his right-side quarter panel.

The impact spun his car, causing it to strike another tree with his left-side quarter panel, police said.
Richardson was transported by Macungie Ambulance Corps to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Although forturnate to not be seriously hurt, Richardson's nightmare wasn't over just yet. Police said he will be cited for careless driving.
