Rescue Captain David Haight is Loyal to Lower Mac FD

He is in charge of rescue operations.

Name:  David Haight

Age:  42

Family:  David and his wife Susan have been married for five years and have a six-month-old son, John.

Occupation:  He is a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch.

Fire Company:  David volunteered for from 1989 to 1995, when he moved out of the area.  He moved back to the area and rejoined the fire company in 2003, and has been there since.

Training:  He is certified as firefighter 1 and firefighter 2, officer 1 and officer 2, instructor 1, fire investigator, rescue, ropes and back-up driver of the fire trucks when needed.

Describe your job with the fire company.  “I am the rescue captain.  I oversee rescues involving cars, water and machinery and direct the others [firefighters] what they should do.”

How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger?  “My wife is used to it.  I was doing this when we met and it is a part of our lives, although she worries when I am called out.”

Tell us a story you'll never forget about your firefighting experience.  “I don’t really have any interesting stories to tell—at least not yet.”

What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company?  “There is a nice group of guys here.  There is quite a diversity of occupations here, which can make things very interesting.  We have tremendous support from the community and are supplied with very good gear to use.”
