Shopping Spree Leads to Retail Theft Charges

For a time, two Allentown shoppers were having quite an afternoon of it at Walmart in Lower Macungie Township, according to police.

Migdalia Fontanez and Juan Gabriel Alvarado, both 31, were shopping in the 1091 Mill Creek Road store about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 6, according to state police at Fogelsville. It would seem that they either had expensive tastes or found quite a few things to their liking as police said the total value of items they were "interested in" was $718.52.

And that would have been a nice sale for Walmart as well. Problem was, according to police, that the pair didn't intend to pay for the merchandise.

The value of the alleged shoplifting attempt was impressive, but falls far short of the total amount of an attempt June 12 in the same store. Morgan Mae Williams, 19, of Easton attempted to leave the store with several televisions, laptop computers and other unspecified items totaling $2,011.71, police said at the time.

Police did not detail what the pair was attempting to steal in the Jan. 6 incident.

Retail theft charges were filed against Fontanez and Alvarado through the office of Magisterial District Judge Michael Faulkner of Upper Macungie Township, police said.
