Lower Macungie Explosion Is Termed Arson

Homemade bomb at woman's doorstep explodes but doesn't appear to cause damage or injury, police say.

An explosion outside a Lower Macungie Township woman's apartment on Nov. 18 is a case of arson, according to police.

said an explosion was reported at 5:24 p.m. outside the door of Susan I. Sherry of 6690 Hauser Road, Apt. G101. Police said a homemade bomb consisting of drain cleaner and aluminum foil in a plastic container caused a chemical reaction. The resulting explosion caused the container to spray its contents in the victim's doorway and sidewalk.

Police did not report any injuries, fire or significant damage. They also said the person responsible is unknown at this time.
