Lower Macungie Man Identified as Alburtis Fatal Accident Victim

Witnesses said he appeared to be slumped over before his vehicle went into a creek on Saturday.

A Lower Macungie Township man has been identified as the victim in a fatal accident that occurred in Alburtis on Saturday evening, according to online reports.

Timothy Kerson, 48, of 2423 Burgundy Drive was identified as the man who died in a single-vehicle accident to the rear of 691 Franklin St., according to Deputy Coroner Eric Minnich, those reports say. An autopsy is planned for Monday.

The accident occurred about 6 p.m. Witnessing neighbors said Kerson's green Ford Explorer was headed north on Franklin when it crashed through a split-rail fence and went about 200 feet through backyards and into the Swabia Creek, where it came to rest.

Witness Cathy Moyer, who lives at 691 Franklin, said the driver appeared to be slumped over the wheel as the vehicle drover through her yard.

Other witnesses said a small fire broke out when the sport utility verhicle ran through brush and wound up in the creek. They said they broke windows and tried to douse flames with water. The creek water did not appear deep enough to cause the death.

Kerson was pronounced dead at the scene, the reports said.
