Expect Heavy Traffic on Main Street Today

Macungie Fire Police will help with traffic as Rita's welcomes spring with free water ice.

Macungie Fire Chief Mike Natysyn asked for -- and received -- approval from Macungie Council Monday to use fire police assistance to monitor and direct the outpouring of revelers who are expected to swarm from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in the borough.

Every year on the first day of spring the confectioner distributes small cups of flavored frozen ice for no charge.

"Tomorrow should be a good one," Macungie Council President Jean Nagle said, "It's supposed to be really warm."
