Macungie Man Allegedly Punched Infant in Head
Police say they were called by officials from hospital where boy is being treated.
A Macungie man was charged with assault-related charges after punching a 9-month-old in the head, according to .
Daniel Meireles, 32, of 164 Lindfield Circle was charged after police were notified of an assault in the borough home, police said. Police said they were called by officials at , where the boy was taken for treatment.
Police said the investigation revealed that Meireles was involved with a physical altercation May 8 with his girlfriend, whom they did not name. Police said Meireles was intoxicated at the time and struck the girlfriend's son with a closed fist on the right side of the head.

Police said the mother immediately took the child to the hospital, where the child remained.
Meireles was found still at the home and arrested, police said. He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault. Police said additional charges may be added depending on the child's condition.

Meireles was sent to Lehigh County Prison. The alleged incident would violate his probation in Northampton County, so his probation there was revoked and a detainer was placed on Meireles.
