Macungie Woman in Wild Police Chase Pleads Guilty

Shayna Sykes and her boyfriend were charged with stealing police cars in a March 5 chase through Camden and Philadelphia.

A 24-year-old Macungie woman charged in a wild police chase in Camden and Philadelphia in March has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and other charges, according to online court records.

Shayna Sykes, who along with her boyfriend Blake Bills had been dubbed "the junkie version of Bonnie and Clyde by Camden's police chief, pleaded guilty in Philadelphia on Friday to aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, fleeing or attempting to elude police, DUI and other charges, the records show.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 16.

Sykes faced a mountain of charges following two high-speed chases in two stolen police cars in Camden and Philadelphia. Police have said the joy rides were drug-fueled. Bills still faces court action.

The 100 mph chases had been caught on video and widely viewed.

Police have said that the saga began when Sykes borrowed a black Mazda Protege from her grandmother in Macungie. When the couple didn't return, the grandmother filed missing persons and stolen car reports. Subsequently, police said, the couple were in Camden and brazenly jumped into a patrol car when an officer stepped out of it for a traffic stop and sped away.

A chase ensued across the Ben Franklin Bridge and into Philadelphia, where police caught up with the pair. Bills was injured and taken into custody, but police said Sykes got into another police car and took off before being caught.
