Firefighter Robert George Has Lots of Experience

The Alburtis captain works in several phases of emergency services.

Occupation:  He works as a 911 dispatcher for Lehigh County with Alburtis fire chief Donald Smith, Jr. and part-time with

Fire company:  George has been the captain of the for the past three years.

Training so far:  “I started at the age of 16. I am trained as firefighter 1, emergency medical technician (EMT), vehicle rescue technician, and I'm trained in hazardous materials operations, just to name a few.”

What's it like being a firefighter?  “I enjoy it. These people are like family and we take care of each other.  I grew up with firefighting and enjoy helping people in their time of need.”

How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger?  “Everyone is very supportive and understands when I get called out. My father is also a firefighter in Kutztown.”

Tell us a story you'll never forget about your firefighting experience.  “I remember when we were at a fire in the Hills at Lockridge several years ago.  The chief at the time fell off a balcony and broke his back.  That was quite an experience.”

What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company?  “This is a serious job and you need to be dedicated.  We can accommodate anyone’s schedule.”
