Police: Man Who 'Failed to Pay Full Retail Price' Also Was Wanted

Retail theft charges at Lower Mac store escalate because he had an active bench warrant for other offense, officials say.

A Berks County man chose an inopportune time to select his own sale at a , and he found himself back behind bars as a result, according to police.

Thomas Kaiser, 24, of Bechtelsville "failed to pay full retail price" for $1,082.38 worth of merchandise at 5 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Lower Macungie store at 1091 Mill Creek Road, according to . The report was not specific, but that terminology often means that a suspect has switched the price tag with one of a lower price.

Kaiser was charged with retail theft, but that wasn't where his troubles ended. According to police, Kaiser also was wanted on an active bench warrant from Montgomery County.

That bit of information got him a return visit to prison, albeit one of a different address. Kaiser was sent to Lehigh County Prison and was arraigned by duty Magisterial District Judge Rod R. Beck of Slatington on the retail theft charge.

State court records also show that Kaiser was arrested in October 2011 on retail theft charges in Montgomery County. That same month, he also received a suspended driver's license. It wasn't clear for which offense he received the active bench warrant.
