Police: Missing Dog Might Have Been Kidnapped

Owner has been unable to negotiate a release with a caller claiming to have "Rocky."

Bethlehem police are looking into a suspected dog theft after his owner could not negotiate his release from a caller who said he or she has the animal.

Rocky is a 4-year-old Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix, which went missing on May 12, according to a Craig’s List posting. His owner, Maria Dorsey of 531 Atlantic St., put up signs in her neighborhood in addition to the Craig’s List ad.

According to a police media report issued this morning, Dorsey has received cell phone calls from someone saying they have Rocky, but want a reward for his return.

“Negotiations for the return of the dog appeared have failed despite the reward,” the police media release said.

The Craig’s List posting says Rocky was wearing a black leather collar with spikes when he disappeared. The ad also says that Rocky needs medicine and has apparently been without it for a while.

“Rocky is not a pet,” the posting says. “He is a part of our family.”

I think the whole thing is disgusting. Why would anyone want to steal a dog and not return it? I think there is more to this than money...it sounds like some sort of revenge. Or it's a prank and the dog is gone. The poor thing needs it's medicine, give back the damn dog!

This is very sad. So many families consider their pets a vital part of the family. I have to agree that this sounds like a stupid prank played by kids. I doubt the caller has the dog. It was probably taken by someone who wanted it, or wanted to sell it to get cash. What a world we live in! Kelly, as far as your comments go, if it were your loved one, I would think you'd want the PD to do all they can to help you find your pet. Don't knock the cops, someday you might just need them!

Can't help it, but, IF OUR SCHOOLS HAD THE PROPER FUNDING, perhaps kids would grow up with better tools for coping. .. IMAGINE a world where teachers had the time and resources to properly educate! Too many socially inept individuals are surviving but not functioning!

You are right Nancy Jo, schools do need better funding to allow teachers to teach instead of having to police students, however teaching kids the proper values begins at a very early age IN THE HOME. A child should be taught not to steal, vandalize or otherwise cause harm. Kids need to be taught that you do not take what is not yours. Sadly, so many kids today think that they are entitled to everything. Society make a mistake a number of years ago by buying into the "feel good" policy for kids. A prime example is giving out trophies to all the teams. It teaches nothing. In this world there are always going to be winners and losers. Kids today need to learn that you don't always get what you want!
