Police: Same Shoplifters 'Hit' Giant on Consecutive Days

After taking nearly $170 in merchandise from the Lower Macungie store the first day, two of the three returned to drive away with more the next, troopers say.

Customer loyalty is one thing, but this is the kind a business doesn't need.

Same goes for customers who bring their own bags. Rather thoughtful, you might think.

Officials believe these attributes can be credited to some of the same people who recently shopped at the Giant store in Lower Macungie Township on consecutive days. But instead of nominating them for Customer of the Month, these shoppers won't be welcomed back anytime soon.

The reason? Store officials believe that some of these "shoppers" conspired to steal from them two days in a row.

State police at Fogelsville said three people -- a man and woman in their 20s or 30s -- plus a 54-year-old man listed as being from Allentown placed some items worth $169.69 in reusable shopping bags between 2:11 and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 21. They left the 7150 Hamilton Blvd. store without paying.

The next day, between 5:30 and 5:50, the two men returned to the store, police said. One hid items in his coat and left without paying. This time the value was unknown.

Police said the two drove away in a 1990s GMC Jimmy.
