An overnight traffic accident has closed a portion of Route 100 that runs through Macungie, according to police.
The accident brought down a utility pole and wires, forcing closure of the highway, according to borough officer Erin McFarland. She did not know details of the accident because she said it was in Upper Milford Township, which is handled by state police at Fogelsville.
State police did not have information on the accident.
The detour took vehicles off of Route 100 onto Route 29 in Upper Milford, onto Buckeye Road and back onto Route 100 at Buckeye in Macungie.
The detour remained in place at least as of noon.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman Ronald Young confirmed that the detour was necessary because of a downed utility pole and wires, but had no details or estimate as to how long the detour would be in place.
