Teacher Accused of Sexually Assaulting Boy in Nazareth School

A Lower Macungie man who teaches in Nazareth was jailed Friday on multiple charges for sexually assaulting a student.

A Nazareth drama teacher who lives in Lower Macungie Township has been accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Shawn William Salevsky, 39, of Kennington Lane, faces multiple counts for sexually assaulting a boy, authorities said. Salevsky was a teacher at Nazareth Middle School.

He was arraigned at 12:30 p.m. Friday before District Justice John Capobianco in Nazareth and is being held in Northampton County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.

A press release from Nazareth Area School District Superintendent Dennis Riker Friday afternoon stated that "several allegations of questionable behavior" were reported to the middle school administration during the week of March 11.

The administration investigated the allegations and Salevsky was removed from the middle school on March 8.

On April 28, the superintendent recommended to the school board that Salevsky be terminated based on allegations. The recommendation was unanimously approved.

Riker said the school district has been working with Upper Nazareth Police, ChildLine Services and the state Department of Education.
