Thieves Strike Again at Fabricating Facility

$15,000 theft occurs within week of $10,000 strike at Allan A. Myers' property, police say.

It looks as if practice makes perfect when it comes to thievery.

Either that or a Lower Macungie Township steel fabricating facility has become such an inviting and easy target that two people got the same idea.

Thieves helped themselves to $15,000 worth of scrap metal between 9:32 p.m. April 8 and 2:14 a.m. April 9 from the fabricating facility of at 7662 Alburtis Road, according to . If you think that sounds familiar, it should. You may have read on Monday that one or more thieves took $9,920 in metal, mostly posts, overnight April 2 from the same location. Unfortunately for Allan A. Myers, a heavy civil construction company based in Worcester, Montgomery County, these are two separate incidents that have now cost them nearly $25,000 in a week's time. The April 2 theft may have been a dry run for this larger heist, although state police did not say whether they believe the two incidents are related.

The theft of metal -- such as copper downspouts, wiring, posts and beams -- is popular particularly in tough economic times for thieves as a source of resale to scrap dealers.

Few details are known or were made available. But, in the most recent theft, the thief or thieves had assistance -- from a 26-foot U-Haul truck, police said, although they did not offer the source of the information, such as whether an eyewitness or video surveillance told them so. Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Humanick at 610-395-1438.
