TV Drama Plays Out in Fraudulent Return at Walmart, Troopers Say

Pair accused of trying to return television they never purchased are caught one mile away from Lower Macungie store, police report.

If it was drama and entertainment that two Walmart shoppers in Lower Macungie recently came looking for, they certainly found it by day's end.

One might have thought the simple purchase of a television set would have brought them the drama they needed with hours of viewing. But, police said, there was more in store for them . . . and more out of the store, too.

Ella Hope Salibi, 22, of Allentown and Rose Mary Cruz, 23, of Coplay said they purchased the TV and then tried to return it for credit around 6 p.m. Jan. 23, according to state police at Fogelsville. The pair received a Walmart gift card for the value of the television they were "returning."

When confronted for making a fraudulent return, police said, the two fled the store at 1091 Mill Creek Road. Police said they caught up with them about a mile from the store, but it wasn't clear whether the pair drove or were on foot.

Charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property were filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Michael Faulkner of Upper Macungie Township.
