Two Emmaus High Students Allegedly Drunk in Class

Police say this is the fourth alcohol-related incident this school year at EHS.

Two Emmaus High School students who recently disrupted class were found to be drunk, according to Emmaus police.

The March 11 activity marks the fourth incident involving student drinking at the high school for this school year, according to Sgt. Charles Palmer.

A teacher suspected two students -- 16- and 17-year-old girls -- of being drunk in class about 10:20 a.m., according to a police report.

One of the students became ill and had to go to the school nurse.  The combination of their behavior in class and the smell of alcohol on their breath led school officials to believe they had been drinking.

A search of the 17-year-old's backpack yielded a partially consumed bottle of peach schnapps, police said. Police charged the 16-year-old with furnishing the alcohol to a minor and underage possession of alcohol.

Due to confidentiality, the school district cannot release any specific information regarding the individual students, said district spokeswoman Nicole Bloise. Police said itwas  the fourth alcohol-related incident of the school year.

The charges were filed with the Lehigh County Juvenile Probation Department. The 17-year-old was charged with public drunkenness and enrolled in the Emmaus Impact Program, an intervention treatment plan for first-time offenders.
