Two Racist Incidents Under Police Investigation

State police report two racist incidents in Lower Macungie but have not said the crimes are related

 

State police are investigating racist grafitti and a report of ethnic intimidation targeting a Jewish resident.

More than 190,000 such hate incidents and crimes occur each year in the United States, according to a 2005 report.

KKK Sprayed on Garage

A Lower Macungie Township woman -- Chermay Michelle Bullock, 31 -- told police that someone sprayed "KKK" on the door of her garage on Sequoia Drive, according to state police at Fogelsville. The act has been classified criminal mischief and occurred between 10:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 7, police said.

Jewish Teen Targeted

Earlier this month, an ethnic-related message sent to a Lower Macungie Township teen on a social media site is being investigated as a criminal offense, according to a news release from state police at Fogelsville.

A 14-year-old girl who is Jewish received ethnic intimidation remarks from two unknown people about 7 p.m. Dec. 2, police said. Police have not released details of the content.

Anyone with information about the Lower Macungie incidents is asked to call police at 610-395-1438.

An online database of hate incidents includes eight reports from Pennsylvania this year including these:

  • Racial slurs and graffiti spray painted on more than 20 vehicles in a Philadelphia neighborhood.
  • Five people allegedly yelled racial epithets, destroyed property and shot paintballs at campers at a Jewish summer camp in the Poconos.
  • Fliers from the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan were left at mobile home parks in Butler County north of Pittsburgh.
