Macungie 'Bonnie & Clyde' Jailed After Carjackings, 100-mph Chase, Police Say

LOWER MACUNGIE, PA -- A local couple called a 'junkie' version of Bonnie and Clyde by police has been jailed, slapped with a slew of charges from two car-jackings and 100-mph police chase through Camden and Philadelphia that left a cop with a broken leg, authorities say.

Shayna Sykes, 24, and Blake Bills, 23, allegedly committed the "ultimate botched drug run," according to Philly.com, which reports Sykes knows the Philadelphia area from working one summer at a popular bar in the Northern Liberties section.

The couple has a 7-month-old child, pictued on Sykes' Facebook page.

The saga began last Friday when Sykes borrowed a black Mazda Protege from her grandmother, Sharon, in Macungie, police said. Sharon ended up filing a missing persons report and stolen car report when the couple didn't return.

On Tuesday, the couple was outside Camden police headquarters when they brazenly jumped in a patrol car as an officer, who had gotten out of the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop.

They hit Officer Sekou Reid-Bay, 49, as they sped away, police say.

A chase ensued across the Ben Franklin Bridge and into Philadelphia, where police caught up with the pair. Bills was hurt and taken into custody. Sykes somehow got into another cop car and took off, slamming into parked cars and driving on the sidewalk until she was stopped and then tried to run away, police said.

"I never heard of anyone stealing two police cars in one incident," Philadelphia's Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Ross told reporters. He called the case "bold, reckless and absolutely brazen."

Tuesday's climactic chase came after a weekend of trouble that police continue to investigate, including these alleged incidents:

• Sunday, 1:20 p.m.: A Camden police officer says he saw the couple trying to buy drugs. He tried to stop their car but the couple fled and the officer's car flipped on a sharp turn. He was treated at a hospital.
• Tuesday, 2 a.m.: A Camden officer saw the couple in a disabled car and checked to see if they needed help. They abandoned the car while he went to respond to a call. When he returned to the car, he ran the plates and found the vehicle was reported stolen from Philadelphia
• Tuesday, 9:30 a.m.: Police say the couple tried to steal a car in Philly but couldn't get inside because it was locked.

The two have been in trouble before.

Bills was charged in a Lehigh County burglary and his driver's license is suspended indefinitely in New Jersey.

Sykes served time in prison in 2009 for three DUIs in Lehigh County, according to court documents.
