Woman Injured in Lower Macungie Rear-End Crash
Passenger in car that was hit taken to hospital, police say; one driver is cited.
A 75-year-old Emmaus woman was injured when the car in which she was riding was rear-ended by a minivan as the vehicles attempted to merge from Mill Creek Road in Lower Macungie onto Hamilton Boulevard, police said.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Nov. 5 when the 2000 Dodge Caravan, driven by Vincent Lynott, 60, of Allentown struck the rear of a 2006 Hyundai Tuscon, driven by Carolyn Rice, 52, of Emmaus.
The Hyundai's passenger was Marian Tanzarella, 75, also of Emmaus.
State police at Fogelsville said the vehicles were eastbound on Mill Creek approaching the Hamilton intersection. The Hyundai was in Mill Creek's right lane, turned into the right turning lane to merge onto Hamilton, then stopped before merging.
The Caravan -- directly behind the Hyundai -- also turned right but rear-ended the Hyundai, police said.
Tanzarella complained of neck and back pain and was taken by Macungie EMS to a hospital. Neither driver was hurt. The Caravan had to be towed, but the Hyundai was drivable. All three people were wearing seat belts, police said.
Police said Lynott was cited for "driving too closely."
