Giant Food Store to Put Opposition to Costco TIF on Record

The Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners will receive a letter from Giant Food Stores, LLC, about the TIF financing plan being considered for the Hamilton Crossings project at its meeting Thursday.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners has a full agenda for its Thursday night meeting, including an item under correspondence opposing the Tax Increment Financing plan designed to help make the proposed Hamilton Crossings project a reality.

That letter, written by the president of Giant Food Stores, LLC, says that the creation of a TIF to support Hamilton Crossings would "unfairly penalize the other businesses in the area, including Giant." The full letter is posted on the township's website as part of the June 6 meeting agenda.

The much-talked about $140 million project would bring a Costco and a Target to Lower Macungie Township -- developing 63 acres off of Krocks Road between Hamilton Boulevard and the Route 222 bypass.
