Hearing Postponed for Lower Mac Man Charged with Attempted 'Mercy Killing'

More facts are needed, prosecutor said.

The preliminary hearing scheduled for earlier today in Lehigh County Court for John Geisinger, the Lower Macungie man charged with trying to kill his wife in a "mercy killing," was postponed.

Attorney Steve Luksa said outside the courtroom that because the victim, Louella Geisinger, was not available, the prosecution was not yet "ready to move" on the case.

John Geisinger, 66, is being held in Lehigh County Prison under $1 million under on charges of attempted criminal homicide, according to police. John Geisinger hit his wife, Louella, in the back of the head with a baseball bat four or five times on the morning of Sept. 1,  said last week.

Police said Geisinger then also tried to drown his wife in the bathtub.

Louella Geisinger, 64, of 1495 Hidden Valley Road, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, but no word has been given by either police, family or Luksa on her condition or the severity of her injuries or even if she still is in the hospital.
