Higgins Wins Third Nod in Lower Mac BOC Republican Primary

Challenger Brian Higgins earned the third Republican nomination in the Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners primary race, according to unofficial tallies.

Call it an election night with a cliffhanger.

Tuesday night, it was unclear who the third Republican nominee in the Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners race would actually turn out to be.

But this morning, challenger Brian Higgins can claim the party's nod, according to unofficial tallies from Lehigh County. Incumbent Ryan Conrad and challenger Ron Beitler won the remaining two of the Republican nominations for four-year terms on the Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners.

Ron Beitler, 1255 votes

Ryan Conrad, 1223 votes

Brian Higgins, 1109 votes

Roger Reis, 1039 votes

Ron Eichenberg, 877 votes.

These numbers strictly come from the voting machines at the polling sites, Benyo explained and do not take into account absentee or provisional ballots. Official canvassing does not begin until 9 a.m. on Friday morning, Benyo added.

Published media reports late Tuesday night were giving the third Republican Party nod to Higgins, while numbers posted on the Lehigh County web site did not support a Higgins win. Benyo said that there was likely an operator error when posting numbers to the web site.
