Letter to the Editor: 'Mayor, You Hung Your Council Out to Dry'

Why does Mayor Rick Hoffman continue to avoid council meetings?

The Monday meeting for the Borough of Macungie was once again a NO SHOW for THE MAYOR!!!!!!

I have to ask myself who is he hiding from????

According to Council President Jean Nagle, who agreed at the June 19 meeting to send a letter to the mayor asking his decision on the 24/7 police issue, the mayor's response -- no surprise -- was NO.

Nagle said citizens should send letters to the mayor or try to track him down ourselves. Some people, myself included, feel it his his responsibility to come to the meetings and answer our questions.

So, Mayor Hoffman, I want you to know you not only disappointed me but also several other citizens of this fine town which we like to call home.

And, you also hung your Council out to dry.

Sincerely,

John L.Long

Jean wants the citizens to track him down, she is a winner her and the Mayor need to step down. What she should be doing is seeing what if anything that can be done. Macungie wasted 10's of thousands of dollars on the incompetent Mayor, now is the time to spend the money to find away to get rid of him. A total embarassment to the community. Maybe we should buy a gps and put it on the mayor !!!!!!

He is definitely hanging his council out to dry. Sad.

GPS the mayor heh heh! Unfortunately, there are no recalls at the local level in PA. I've talked to lawyers familiar with the MPC regarding this when I felt another local official warranted a recall effort. A certain township official who framed a debate and remained on the dias when the board was discussing a land development issue he had a clear cut financial conflict of interest in.....

In addition, this clown "mayor" doesn't care what he does to council or more importantly to the citizens of Macungie. I recall a statement he made saying that "he doesn't care what the blogs say." Meaning: I don't care what the people say. I reallly think that he though he could bully his way into the police department, could man-handle council and pretty much get whatever he wanted to suit his childish needs. He never counted on or expected the backlash he encountered from the people of Macungie. Now he hides at home and will not attend meetings for fear he may have to try and defend his moronic ideas (GPS in police cars for example). Why is he sticking around? Going to his house is not a solution, but it would be funny to watch him call the MPD if a group of citizens showed up on his front step. Hopefully it would happen during an "open" shift! Council needs to stand united against this idiot and TELL him to step down. He has worn out his welcome in this town and with the majority of the citizens.

The Mayor's council? What do you mean? How are they his council?
for real July 06, 2012 at 02:11 AM
The way I read the situation is this: Council can do nothing to force the mayor's hand. They can't make him attend meetings and they can't make him do anything further with the police department especially after the court ruling saying he was head of the police department. I would not advide council to waste any more time or money trying to go after the mayor. The council can govern effectively on the vast majority of other issues without him unless he is needed to break a tie. Maybe time to move on?

@guy - Is the mayor not a resident?
john l.long July 06, 2012 at 09:43 PM
John L.Long We have approximatly a year and a half yet to go until his term is up ? Should we just sit back and NOT HOLD THIS MAYOR RESPONSIBLE and let him do whatever he wants and whenever he wants to? I say NO he needs to answer to the PEOPLE of the town of Macungie .IF WE HAVE A QUESTION !! I feel it is his responsibility to come to the { 2 } Meetings that we have a month to answer them, and not leave his Council to guess what he might be thinking,
