Lower Macungie Commissioners Hear Resident's Concern

He is hoping to get a "No Turn on Red" sign for what he calls a dangerous intersection.

Lower Macungie resident Ken Guldin addressed township commissioners at the June 2 meeting regarding the dangers surrounding an East Texas Road intersection.

There is a major site concern at the East Texas section near where Guldin lives  and its intersection with Brookside Road.  It is extremely dangerous when people make a right turn on a red light from Brookside Road (going toward Wescosville) onto East Texas Road.  There are hedges on the left side of Brookside Road which can block the view, he said.

Guldin suggested putting a “No Turn on Red” sign at the intersection, which would prevent a lot of the accidents occurring there.

Commissioner Joseph Pugliese said he agreed with Guldin – the intersection is dangerous, he said, and something needs to be done.

Township engineer William Erdman said a study needs to be done in order to justify a sign to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).  This study could cost approximately $300 or more.

“I think it’s warranted – to invest $300 in a study, " Guldin said.

Ryan Conrad, vice president of the commissioners, said a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper will be present at the next meeting, June 16.  The commissioners decided to discuss the issue with him at that meeting and will notify the trooper, at Guldin’s request, to bring along statistics showing the number of accidents at that intersection.
