Macungie Borough Council Candidate Guy Ramsey

The lone incumbent, Ramsey says the borough needs a vision.

Editor's note: Four candidates are running for two four-year seats on Macungie Borough Council. Each was asked the same questions, and Patch brings them to you in alphabetical order today.

Incumbent Guy Ramsey, a Democrat, is running for his second term as Macungie Borough Council, on which he has served as president for the past two years. He and his wife, Jane, have a daughter, Caroline, and reside at 133 S. Church Street. Ramsey, 56, is employed at R&D Circuits, Allentown, as a division manager.

He has an Associate degree from Lincoln Technical Institute and a Bachelor of Science degree in Quality Sciences from Kennedy Western University.

Why are you running for Macungie Borough Council?  “I didn’t feel like I accomplished everything I wanted to in my first term,” he said.  Ramsey’s goal is to have more public interest in borough government.  He wants the community to know the doors are open for them to participate in local government, whether they attend a meeting or join a committee.

What do you feel is the biggest issue in Macungie?  The biggest and most serious problem the borough faces, according to Ramsey, is apathy on the part of the citizens.  He estimated there are probably about 1,000 adults in the borough who could participate in the government.  Not everyone is qualified to hold an office, but, he said, citizens are needed on various committees and organizations throughout the borough.

How do you feel about Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed budget and what it will do for education?  Ramsey doesn’t know what the impact of the proposed budget will be on Macungie, but the borough “will have to provide an appropriate level of flexibility.”

What are your plans for Macungie?  “Macungie Borough needs a vision,” he said, “and that vision should be to be the cultural and historic business center of greater Macungie, whatever that might be.”
