Macungie Council Has a Quiet Night

No decisions were made.

Macungie Council came up a few members short of a quorum Monday night. Between work obligations, a medical condition and a vacation, only council members Greg Hutchison, Linn Walker and Chris Becker were able to attend.

Consequently, no issues were voted on except for routine bills in need of payment.

The public, however, was free to speak.

Jane Leeser, a trustee of the , gave a status reports of the Institute's efforts to become more profitable.

Most importantly, she said, the formation of The Friends of the Macungie Institute is progressing in its efforts to gain 501(c) 3 non-profit status.

Additionally, several fundraising events have been planned for the rest of 2012 including four Bingo nights beginning April 29.

Also a living history trade fair will be held in the fall, and a bus trip is being planned.

Leeser said information on becoming a Friend of the Macungie Institute will be available on the borough website in a few days.

Memberships start at $15 for a one-year individual membership.

Issues to be addressed at the next council meeting include GPS units in borough police cars, the borough's emergency management plan and a zoning ordinance revision for historical building demolition regulations.

Borough Engineer William Erdman will present SCARP information and an update on rehab that needs to be done to the borough sewer system at 6:30 on March 19 at the Macungie Institute.
