Macungie, How Does Your Garden Grow?

Visitors to the borough's web page are about to find out.

The borough of Macungie, with the help of RCN, will soon install a webcam in the Macungie Flower Park.

And yes, the purpose IS to watch the flowers grow, according to Borough Manager Chris Boehm. There is no ulterior motive, although several council members at the March 4 meeting would not be disappointed if the camera deterred a skateboarder or two.

The camera will be installed on the pole at Mill and Main streets and will be focused on the flowers and the trains, she said.

A previous option for pole installation would have had the camera possibly peeking into a home or two, but officials opted to have the camera only pointed at the flowers and the trains which do not normally complain about privacy issues.

Additionally, there will be no recording of what happens on the camera, which was the concern of Council member David Boyko. More to the point, he was concerned that recorded material could become fodder for Right-to-Know requests.

So when you walk through the flower park, smile for the camera.
