Why are you running for East Penn School Board?
I have always felt a duty to serve and help out were I can.  Currently, there is a need for qualified citizens to step up and serve the community and help guide and support our education system to help keep it's high level of excellence.

What qualifies you to serve on East Penn School Board?

I am a PARENT.  I want to maintain the high level of education that our school district is known for.

I am a HOME OWNER and TAX PAYER.  I have a vested interest in the maintaining a quality school district to ensure high property values.  I do not want to overpay on my taxes, I want a fair tax policy and balanced school budget.

I am a EDUCATION ADVOCATE.  I strongly support measures that have proven track records of helping educate our children. I will push for measures that will help our children and community.

I am a WORKING PROFESSIONAL and BUSINESS OWNER.  As a scientist and owner of a small web design company, I know what is required of today’s working staff and how we need to ready the students to meet those needs.

I have a HISTORY OF SERVICE.  I served four years in the US Army, four years in the PA. National Guard, and a member of the Upper Perk Downtown Committee for four years.

What do you see as the East Penn School Board˙s primary role and responsibilities?
To represent the taxpayers and provide oversight to superintendent in his effort to maintain a high level of education while helping to facilitate innovative changes to adapt to tomorrow's challenges.

Tell us about three major challenges facing East Penn School Board and how you would address them. (Please be as specific as possible):

  1. Population increase and facility at the high school level.  With the proposed high density zoning changes, there could be a large influx of students with little tax increase in the next 6-10 years.  In it existing form, the high school can not sufficiently handle an large increase in students.
  2. Increasing the quality of our education.  Our level of science, technology and math taught, while on par with the rest of the state, does not efficiently get our children ready for their future.

I would suggest that both of these challenges could be addressed by the expanding the existing high school facilities and creating a STEAM center.   A STEAM (Science Technology Engineering, Arts and Math) center would allow CP and Honors level students to acquire more focused education in areas that would ready them for further learning more effectively.  It could also attract other high quality students from surrounding district to further their education in a EPSD school.  This possible solution would increase the student volume load of our high school, while also increasing the quality of education and facilities for the students.  If the center is operated correctly, and student from other district attend our high school, additional revenues would be generated by the STEAM center to help defray the cost of operation.  Many school district are in the planing stages for creating STEAM focused learning, and I would be high supportive and advocate for a EPSD STEAM center.
Overall, I think that all issues and problems should be addressed by looking at situations

How much are you spending to run? How is your campaign being funded?
