Wife of Former Macungie Mayor Among Interim Mayor Candidates

Macungie Borough Council will be interviewing three candidates for interim mayor at tonight's council meeting, according to borough manager Chris Boehm. And, if all goes as planned, council will likely appoint a new mayor before the end of the night.

The candidates, Boehm says, include Gary Cordner and Ron Conrad, both of whom are running for Macungie Mayor in the November general election, and Doris Horner, the wife of former Macungie Mayor Jack Horner.

Doris Horner retired as Macungie's assistant secretary/treasurer in December after working for the borough for 22 years.

Cordner, a Democrat, was the only mayoral candidate on the May 21 primary ballot. Conrad earned the slot on the Republican ballot with a write-in campaign during the primary.

The borough has been without a chief executive since the July 1 council meeting, when council officially accepted the resignation of Macungie Mayor Rick Hoffman. Hoffman ended his controversial term of office about six months shy of completion to retire in Virginia with his wife Sue.

Macungie Borough Council meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at The Macungie Institute.
