Dad Demands School Board Director's Resignation

Lou Schuler, father of three East Penn students, wants Julian Stolz to resign from the East Penn School Board for comments Stolz made on Twitter.

Controversy again swirled at the feet of East Penn School Board Director but this time it was not related to any of his official school board positions.

Lou Schuler, a resident of Lower Macungie Township, addressed the school board during public comment with posts that Stolz recently made on social network Twitter regarding his stance on public education.

Stolz’s exchange occurred March 8 with Todd Kincannon, the former South Carolina GOP executive director whose series of what Huffington Post calls “racially charged tweets” during the Super Bowl “created an uproar.”

Schuler read a Kincannon tweet and Stolz’s response:

Kincannon: “There is nothing more brain rotting than public schools. God I pity the proletariat for having to send their inferior crotchfruit to them.”

Stolz: “@ToddKincannon as a School Board director, I wish I could disagree. As a sentient being, I cannot.”

As a parent with two children at Emmaus High School and one at Lower Macungie Middle School, Schuler said that Stolz was not the kind of person he wanted making policy for the schools his children attend and demanded that Stolz resign immediately.

Though public comment is not usually the time for directors to respond, Stolz asked President Charles Ballard for a few minutes and was granted the time.

“I don’t agree with Kincannon’s language,” Stolz said, but explained that he often agrees with Kincannon’s views.

“There are many problems with public schools. East Penn School District is an exception…and I look forward to continuing to uphold the excellent reputation of this district,” Stolz said.

After the meeting, Stolz said he would disassociate himself with Kincannon when East Penn School Directors Francee Fuller and Alan Earnshaw disassociate themselves with the books “Prep” by Curtis Sittenfeld and , two books on East Penn approved reading lists that Stolz challenged last fall.

Stolz has declared his candidacy for mayor of Emmaus as well as a seat on Emmaus Council.
