Kevin Weber Earns Scouting's Highest Honor

He was one of six scouts to earn Boy Scouts' highest award.

Editors Note: The following profile of a new Eagle Scout from Troop 431 is one  of six in a series that will run before the story of their Court of Honor is published.

Kevin Weber, 15, at 10th-grader at Emmaus High School, was one of six scouts to earn an Eagle Award Feb. 4 at Bethany United Methodist Church in Wescosville as part of the Court of Honor for Boy Scout Troop 431 of East Texas.

Kevin began scouting as a Tiger Cub with Pack 400 in Trexlertown in 2002 and transferred to Pack 431 in 2004.

Since joining Troop 431, he has served as den chief for Pack 431, assistant patrol leader of Dan Beard Troop 431, patrol leader of the Bisons Troop 431, and he iscurrently an instructor for the troop. Kevin is also temporary troop guide for Troop 86 in Alburtis.

He earned 26 merit badges, hiked 227 miles, and camped 76 nights with Troop 431. Kevin has been a member of the Order of the Arrow since 2009. His summer camp experience includes Florida Sea Base High Adventure in 2011 and the 49th Annual West Point Camporee in 2011.

For his Eagle Project, Kevin installed a 20-foot permanent flagpole, with two solar lights and an American Flag at The Freedom Memorial Garden located at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. The Freedom Memorial Garden honors 17 fallen heroes from the Lehigh Valley area who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Kevin also built and installed a park bench along the walking path behind the Lower Macungie Library in honor of the 17 fallen feroes named in The Freedom Memorial Garden. A plaque was then placed on the bench to honor the dead soldiers.

He is the son of George and Kathryn Weber of Macungie, and has a brother, Derek, who also received his Eagle Award from Troop 431.

Kevin is a member of the EHS football team and a board member of TeenWorks, a Greater United Way group that assists in funding local youth doing community projects.

Kevin plans to attend college upon graduation and major in history education.
