EHS 'Shave for the Brave' Raises $47,700 for Pediatric Cancer Research

Emmaus High School Track & Field team outdoes itself again for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

When the Emmaus High School Track and Field team was gearing up for its third St. Baldrick’s Foundation kids' cancer fundraiser, it was still very proud of the $39,921 it raised in 2011—as well it should have been.

But the hope was to raise even more at its March 22 event, held at Emmaus High School, which it did.

With 120 people shaved, a grand total of $47,700 was raised for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a California-based group that funds childhood cancer research.

Shannon Petrunak, EHS Track & Field coach, thanked the honorees for their inspiration, the selfless shavees, hardworking volunteers, barbers and generous donors.

“Emmaus is an awesome community, and I'm a very proud teacher, coach, VEO (Volunteer Event Organizer), and four-time shavee,” she said.

During this year’s two-hour event, one special moment occurred when the father of one of the deceased honorees, Doug Sheriff of the Angel 34 Foundation, presented the Emmaus Student Body with the “Sweet Pea Award” in recognition of its efforts to help those affected by pediatric cancer.

Additionally, Sue Beuttle, mother of track athlete Ryan, won the coveted Emmaus T-shirt quilt, which raised over $1,000 at this year’s fundraiser.
